From the Holy to Humanity
“Joy’s trick is to supply
Dry lips with what can cool and slake,
Leaving them dumbstruck with also an ache
Nothing can satisfy.” - Richard Wilbur
It is within this contradiction, this realm of seeing rather than knowing, that absence becomes indication of something unseen yet known, lost but present, archived and immediate. My work, then, exists as both call and response – the residue of making, meditating, resting, and reacting – and my process an opportunity to encounter an ache (such as that described by Wilbur) for some place, some Joy, some One I am already intrinsically familiar with.
