Each year, World Finance celebrates the efforts of its team members by hosting a destination event known as One World. OW ‘23 took place at Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida, and included an awards banquet to recognize the company’s exceptional team members. We were tasked with developing and illustrating a set of slides to partner with the OW ‘23 brand and relate each award to a recognizable film. After researching theatrical poster design, we determined two main visual directions, eventually focusing on examples with iconic typography and graphic imagery (Direction Two below).

Ideation

Once our visual direction was established, we explored Universal films that would represent the awards to be presented at the banquet. The OW ‘23 banquet featured six awards: the Big Heart award was given to the team member who delivered above and beyond in their community outreach; the Dark Horse award to the District Manager or Branch Manager who transformed their district or branch under unique circumstances; the Dreamwork award to the collaborators who impacted their teammates by embodying “team work makes the dream work;” the Friend of the Field award to the team member who built bridges between the branches; the Special Ops award to the top performers in the company; and the Trailblazer award to the team member who developed and implemented an impactful idea.

Awards Banquet

Our final list of films implemented Batteries Not Included (Big Heart), Dune (Dark Horse), The Goonies (Dreamwork), E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (Friend of the Field), Top Gun (Special Ops,) and Back to the Future (Trailblazer). Each slide featured the
recipient's name in custom type, representational graphics and palettes, and the OW ‘23 logo.
